One of the best and most appreciated parts of our class-room teaching of
business and software architecture has long been the 2xSundblad Architectural
Framework. It’s a derivative of Zachman’s Framework. It does not replace that
father of all architectural frameworks, but it complements it. While the Zachman
Framework is expressly meant for enterprise architecture, the 2xSundblad
Framework is meant to help people architect, design, and build more focused
software solutions, without having to carry too much of a burden from other
focused solutions.
As you will see in the article, some organizations have been extremely
successful in using the 2xSundblad Framework to guide the architectural process
and to help document it.
We’re now presenting a new version of the framework. This is to improve the
alignment of the framework and our most recent thinking around the alignment of
software architecture to business architecture, all in line with the theme of
the 2xSundblad Academy: Business Improvement Through Better Architected
Software. This is the first article in a suite that will present this new
version of the 2xSundblad Architectural Framework.
